Venezia or Ancona

I think I need some advice.

I will be taking a ferry to Greece this summer either on the 15th of August or 16th of August.
I will have to decide which port to use Venezia or Ancona.
Any suggestions would be very welcome :-)

Is there any bank holiday around these days?
There is one in Greece on the 15th so there's usually a lot of traffic :-(
How about Italy? Are the roads busier or everyone is on holidays ? :-)

How about getting to the ports.
A couple of years ago when I had to go to Venezia (probably end of July - cannot remember exactly), there was a big queue at the toll :-( (more than 30 minutes waiting :-( ).
Is Ancona better? The same ?

Hope to see some of you if it's possible as well :salta:

Ciao ;-)

Just sent an e-mail to one of our fellows...

I'll let you know as soon as he replies to me...

Anyway, August 15th is holiday (we call it Ferragosto), the queue risk it's pretty high, so I guess it's better the 16th...

Hi Makis,
I read your messages and I'll try to be helpful in planning your trip.

I can say that roads rounds Venice zone are always really full of traffic, everytime, in all seasons... and, as Attila wrote, I suppose Ferragosto day will be even worse (as all holiday places in that day...). Probably Ancona will be a little better...

I write some links where you can find sea lanes to greece by some maritime agencies:

Hello Makis, :D
depends where you must go.
If you want to visit the North you Venice council, if you want to remain on the Italy Center you Ancona council. The 15 of August are festivity and all here persons (90%) are already in the tourist localities.

Hello and good travel

Grazie Stefalco.

It will be Ancona then :-)

Grazie Ivano :ok:

It seems quite likely that I have to stay around Bologna for a night, so when I know for sure I will let you know and if you can, we can try and meet :-)

Are there any hotels that you can suggest around this area?
Here we have a big chain called ibis.
Not very cheap, not very expensive.. but ok
Anything similar in your places?

It will be nice to meet an english CN owner... :D
...but a question: are you the only one..? You are the only one in these pages for sure, but how many CN owners in your Country ?

Bologna is an exhibition place and there are really a lot of hotels: Holiday Inn, Best Western, a.s.o. (but I don't know Ibis Hotel chain, sorry...) and you can find a lot of them in a common searching engine...

I can say that there is a new hotel near (500 mt.) the Imola highway exit http://www.eurohotelimola.com/index.html
I don't know room prices but you can send an offer request directly to the hotel (booking page, select "offer" box); Imola is on the A14 highway, 30 km. east from Bologna and 190 km far from Ancona and an hotel near the autoroute exit probably will avoid you to enter in a quite big city like Bologna (with its cross of roads, highway, tangential road a.s.o. and traffic troubles)...

:-) Ha ha .. of course I'm not the only one. There a couple that had appeared in this forum, quite a few in the http://www.apriliaforum.com/ (american one) and a few more in the yahoo groups. :-)
Maybe because this forum went quiet for some time :-(
The more people that post to this forum, the more will join ;-)
Maybe you could translate some of the posts on the other fora in English, so people start taking part ;-)

Thanks again for the suggestions :-) :-)
The distances sound ok, as the ferry from Ancona sails at 5 in the afternoon !
I let you know when everything is finalised :-)
Thanks Ivano

It could be a good idea, even if it would be almost a job... and my english is really bad, so bad that I couldn't charge a wage to you AOTR fellows... :D :D :giullare:
Maybe Attila could succeed in making something for the translations, his english is really better than mine... :teach:

Ah, by the way, congratulations for your knowledge of latin language (the use of the plural form of forum=fora, I mean :teach: )... I think that also in Italy really a few of people knows that correct use of the word fora...

:-) :-) If your english was so bad as you think they are then I wouldn't understand a thing!!!
And of course we wouldn't have a conversation
Unless of course you want to be an English literature professor ;-)

We will have to arrange an English competition to sort this one out :giullare:
